Franklin Bruno is a musician that has recorded under his own name as well as being the lead singer and songwriter for Nothing Painted Blue (of which Peter Hughes was formerly a member). He is also one half of The Extra Lens, a side-project with John Darnielle.

In addition to the Lens, he is a frequent collaborator with Darnielle's main band, the Mountain Goats. He is credited with playing the piano and other various instruments on many of the studio-quality Mountain Goats releases, such as Tallahassee and We Shall All Be Healed. He also co-wrote the music of "In Corolla"[1], which made him the only person to co-write a Mountain Goats song with Darnielle, until Hughes' contributions to "Shelved".

The Mountain Goats have covered a number of Bruno's songs in concert, including "The Irony Engine" and "Milkcrate" from Bruno's solo career, and "Houseguest" from Nothing Painted Blue.
