On December 8, 2015, John Darnielle announced on the official Mountain Goats website dates for a spring 2016 tour of the American Northeast and Midwest (with five solo dates in Florida and California a month ahead of the main tour). Aside from a small number of solo shows in February, the tour lineup is the same as the most recent tours (Darnielle on vocals, guitar and piano, Peter Hughes on bass guitar, Jon Wurster on drums, and Matt Douglas playing various other instruments) but with a more "stripped down" feel than the tours promoting the release of Beat the Champ.
William Tyler was the opening act for all full band shows, as well as the Arcata show. For the rest of the solo shows, the openers were (chronologically) Langtry, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Field Music, and Sun Foot.
